Lowly Saturdays with Nowhere to Go

BWAHAHAHA DO YOU PEOPLE REALLY THINK THAT I ACTUALLY HAVE THE ENERGY AFTER SCHOOL TO SET UP MY TRIPOD ANYMORE?

Top: Kohl's, Hair flower: gift, Skirt: thrifted, Belt: H&M, Ankh necklace: Minnesota Renaissance Festival, Combat boots: thrifted

Hey all! Happy belated Valentine's Day! Was love in the air for you this week? I came home after school on Monday to this wonderful surprise waiting for me:

From Mr. Samuel, we named the bear Bilbo and he lives on my bed currently <3

Well despite that, I think up here in the Twin Cities we're all suffering a bit from seasonal disorder. The weather is extraordinarily fluctuating, snowstorm one day and 50 degree sun the next. I try to keep myself entertained as best I can, my attention span somewhat requires that I be running around doing things consistently during the daylight hours. But I won't put on a tough face for you guys, seeing as this is my blog and I get all my complaining out on here so I'm not a sour puss with my friends. SCHOOL IS HAAAARD DX. Chemistry is progressively getting more and more difficult, it's safe to say that math is not my strong suit. But now I've got meself a three day weekend! I best enjoy it :D Hopefully I'll be going on a thrifting extravaganza later today with my bestie, and go on a prance with myself if the weather permits (prance = a walk with excessive twirling and skipping along the street). Nevertheless, I have made time for tea parties with my Hello Kitty dolls, which is always a stress reliever:

But I think I've yet to tell you guys I'm in another musical for this spring, and guess what we're doing??? LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS!

For those who are unfamiliar with the show, it centers on poor, nerdy Seymour, who is employed at a business-deserted flower shop on the sad and dirty streets of a dark place called Skid Row. There he works alongside girl-of-his dreams Audrey, a ditzy but sweet flower arranger with heart-wrenchingly low self-esteem and an abusive dentist boyfriend. Right as it seems that the shop will have to go out of business, Seymour discovers a strange little plant during a total eclipse and promptly puts it in the window display (naming it Audrey II after the woman he secretly adores). The plant immediately begins attracting a slew of customers to the little shop, and Seymour becomes its caretaker. However, water and plant food seem to have no effect on the strange fly-trap like Audrey II, and Seymour is ordered to find out what keeps it alive. After an incident involving the cutting of his finger, he is quick to learn that what the little plant feeds on is human blood. He decides that in order to keep his job he will be the provider of its food, and lets the plant drink from his own finger. Audrey II begins to grow, though, and soon becomes a deep-voiced, R&B singing human-trap who claims that he will only be satisfied if Seymour finds him people to eat. The show quickly becomes a fast-paced, cartoony, dark-comedy with hilarious dialogue and wild numbers. The movie is available on netflix and I would highly recommend it!

In the show I am an ensemble member overall, but also play a dental assistant, a backup dancer to the sadistic dentist Orin, Audrey's abusive boyfriend, who became a dentist specifically so that he could cause people pain. We've started work on it for a few weeks now, and I'm very excited for it all to come together over the next two months.

That's all I've really got, it's a nice looking day out and I think I'll head outside.

Peace, yo

Currently watching the Glee Christmas special.....

Alligator shirt: from Maddie, Beret: H&M, Scarf: thrifted, Pants: Old Navy, Foxtail: Minnesota Rennaisance Festival, Shoes: Chuck Taylor, Sunglasses: DIY

Sorry I haven't been posting as often, I'm crazy busy with school, theatre, and Christmas related things. I'll try to post more over winter break (though I can't guarantee I'll be dressing very well, hehe). Other than that I don't have too much to say, have a good final few days of school!

Oh yeah, I'm also going on a field trip to see Les Mis on Thursday! I love being an honors English student.

My closet is exploding yet I have nothing to wear

I am in the midst of a style rut, my friends. I desperately desire to loose myself within the depths of Value Village and seize all of their kookiest items in hopes that it would cure me of this fatal disease. Alas, though, I am but a jobless fifteen year old living from the scraps of her babysitting money.

I know, I know. Silly me. There are plenty more imporant things than fashion that I should be concerning myself with at the moment(Like.....um.....school, maybe?), yet I just can't help but losing myself in frivolous occupations. They do say though that the better you look, the better you feel. True story bro.

Anywho.....um....pics!

Oh by the way, I got into the One Act again this year!(yay! theatre!)

Also, I checked this book out from the library today and I'm frickin excited to read it cover to cover!

(sorry for the sideways)

One more thing, have you witnessed Herman Cain's latest interview about Libya? These people make me sad. Yet they're so funny.

HA!

Don't Leave Meee!!!

Well it's opening week for the show and we're working our fingers to the bone trying to tie all the ends together. DON'T LEAVE ME!! I promise you I'll be back up and posting as soon as the play ends, which is on Sunday. It opened on Thursday and the first two shows went really well!! My hooker antics seemed to charm the audience quite a bit. We have two more shows tonight and tomorrow night: wish me a broken leg! But I guess I have to leave you with something, don't I?

This is a chipotle burrito.
Because burritos are my soul.

Quirky Wirky

My lips are so chapped, they're as red as my shoes

It got cold today! Probably far too cold to be wearing an outfit like this, and I will admit that I spent a large portion of the school day cuddled up in my cozy hoodie (it has this fluffy inside, for god's sake!) But that's Minnesota, and as a Midwestern fashion blogger I spose it's something to be dealt with. Blah. Whatevah. Here's your pics:

I guess I better break it to y’all now, I probably won’t be doing much posting next week. We open The Adding Machine on Thursday the 27th (ah! Exciting!) making next week, and I quote my director word for word, “Hell Week.” I’ve been through it countless times, and it’s truly not all that hellish, just busy. Actually, it’s typically quite a bit of fun, on account of that’s when the dress rehearsals start. And you know me, ever the fan of dress. Oh, the perks of being a dramahead. Anywho, despite what may be the popular belief, I won’t be dead, so please don’t abandon me. And trust me, you won’t even WANT any outfit posts from me, unless you care to see my track sweatpants from seventh grade or my ratty old marching band t-shirts. ‘Cause I assure you, that’s what I’ll be donnin! But we have Thursday and Friday of this week off of school, so I’ll hopefully be able to keep you posted then (Ha! Get it? Posted? I’m so good at making lame blog puns). Until then, enjoy the cold. It’s an excuse to cuddle. And wear scarves.
Wish us all a bunch of nice broken legs for this week and next, we’re gonna need it!

I hope I can wear these tights onstage

Blue cami: Marshalls, Cardigan: Target, Necklace: gift, Pants: Delia's, Fishnets: Ragstock, Shoes: Target

Yes, messy room I know.
A part of me feels like I was inspired to put fishnets under my jeans because in the show I'm currently working on, The Adding Machine, I play a hooker named Judy. I always envision Judy clad in big curls, red lips, a tiny dress, black pumps, and these fishnets. This is my preferred method of wearing them, indeed. I hope the costume designer will incorporate them into my final outfit.
Also, I apologize for the low-quality of these pictures. But, alas, I had two big tests today and I got home from rehearsal at 6, so I was completely and entirely just TOO lazy to lug my tripod outside.

On an unrelated note, I thought it would be pretty fun to give you an idea of how I spend my school hours:

Yes, this is what we did all hour in chemistry yesterday when we were supposed to be watching a video on the history of measurement.
Emily had a pad of mini post-its (which are incredibly unhealthy for ADD prone children) so four of us started writing notes and posting them to each other's desks.

(yes I know it's sideways, as I said- far too lazy)

The video was boring anyway.

(Oh by the way! Have you guys tried the new pineapple kool-aid yet???? It's been my latest obsession....)

The Way of the Weird

So I haven't gotten that tripod set up yet.

This is what I wore on Friday, as it was Spirit Week and that day's theme was "Super Fly Friday"
Yeaaaahhh......about that title.....

The obnoxious Marilyn Monroe t-shirt is about 3 sizes too big for me and tied up in the back, but it was on the clearance rack at Target and simply too cool to pass up. At least two of my friends said that they were going to go out and buy one too.

Hair clip: gift, necklace: Ebay, T-shirt and skirt: Target, Leggings: Old Navy, Shoes: Converse

Speaking of Spirit Week, I as ever the spirited high school girl attended the Homecoming dance last night. Super-awesome pictures soon to come.

On an unrelated yet wonderful note, I am in yet another play: my school's rendition of The Adding Machine by Elmer Rice. Take a look at some production photos from other theaters:

My character unfortunately is not pictured in any of these photos. She goes by the name of Judy O'Grady, and is a wild, funny, eccentric 1940's Southern prostitute. Yup. That's me. The sci-fi hooker. I am beyond excited to have this role. The play itself takes place in a sort of post-apocalyptic 1940's dystopian society, and follows the life of the miserable Mr. Zero in his unhappy marriage and boring job that he's fired from after holding it for 25 years. Essentially, it's a sci-fi dark comedy about a guy whose life sucks. But many other things happen too. If you ever get a chance to see it, I would recommend it highly. It's a fascinating expressionist piece, and if done right, will be very entertaining.

Since I've picked up the habit of skipping from topic to topic, one of my honors English assignments was to create a poster of yourself reading your favorite book. This was my photo:

Embrace the Weird.

Speaking of weird, Arabelle of Fashion Pirate posted a picture of herself wearing THESE shoes:

I WANT THEM.

And that will be all.

Busy Life=Abandoned Blog

Why does it seem like every post is an apology for never posting?! Ok, I'll make this one short and sweet, and just cut to the chase. Sorry. I don't know how I'll gather my dreamed loyal gathering of readers at this rate. Oh well. Live and learn, right? Well anyway, my musical just finished up and I don't know how to say it any other way than IT WAS ONE HELLUVA SHOW! It was Grease, so the bar was set pretty high. We completely pulled it off though! Aside from opening night, something went wrong with the cast each day we performed it. Our Danny lost his voice the second night, couldn't sing at all. Yup. No understudies either. Luckily, one of the other amazing T-Birds jumped in for him and performed his heart out. Couldn't have asked for a better group of actors to perform with. I and my onstage-boyfriend got to take second place at the "Hand Jive Dance Contest," which I daresay was the highlight of my individual performance. Anyway, the crowd loved it, it was a blast to put on, and it taught us how to navigate the sticky situations that stage theatre often presents. What more could we ask for in a show? I think all that's left to say now is: GREASE IS THE WORD!

Pre-prom scene dressing room shot. (I'm the one in the sky blue dress if you can't tell)
Oh the fantastic fifties.
One of my many weeknesses.

The Return of Ms. Mermaid

Yes, go ahead....punish me. I'm terrible at being consistent. I wake up every morning and usually think something about posting, but then I get caught up in the wonders of the day and, what do you know, it's over. Actually, I SHOULD be sleeping right now, but you'll all come to learn that I'm somewhat of an insomniac. At least my life hasn't been boring while I was away, in fact, just the opposite! Second semester started at school, bringing with it a rearranged schedule, a new teacher, and a lot of new friends. I really am starting to love going to school, even if I am still just a lowly freshman. Now what else happened? Hmmm....well...let's think.....OH YEAH! I got into Grease! My audition went smoothly, along with the callbacks, and I landed myself a role in the ensemble. Disappointed? Not in the least! There were no freshmen cast into roles outside the ensemble, and I'm perfectly content with being in the background for most of the scenes, singing, and dancing. Even if acting is my forte, it's only my first year of high school. Gotta start somewhere, right? Anyway, it's pretty exciting. I would invite you all to the show buuuuut that would entail giving away the name of my high school, and that's not something that was neccessarily on my agenda. Perhaps when I'm rich and famous ;)

On another note, I thought I would go ahead and blog a little about the movie that I FINALLY got out to go and see today! I'd been wanting to see Black Swan since the minute I read a magazine article about it, and I will say that it most certainly lived up to my expectations.

The movie follows ballerina Nina as she is cast as the Swan Queen in Swan Lake, and proceeds to "become" the Black Swan as her character does in the show. It was a psychological thriller, which is definately one of my favorite kinds of movies. Being an avid horror movie lover, I enjoyed the suspense and darkness that was present throughout the entire film. It's one of those stories that bounces in and out of reality, where you can almost be driven crazy just by watching it. I won't say that it didn't have me cringing at some of the bloodier parts (I have sensitive nails, ok?), but it was definately worth it. Not to mention Natalie Portman was FANTASTIC.

The Black Swan costume was gorgeous; I won't deny that I've always been a fan of ballet dresses. Tutus make regular appearances in my every day outfits :)

I love the fact that something so terrifying spawned from something so beautiful- it made the whole movie much more enjoyable in the visual aspect
